Match Report

St Kilda has had the edge over the Western Bulldogs in recent times and so it proved again under the roof of Etihad Stadium on a Sunday afternoon. The Saints smashed the Dogs by 63 points earlier in the season and they were able to take it to another level this time, winning by 78 points. The Dogs were competitive early, but the Saints’ class and determination to finish in the finals proved to be too much. Saints captain Nick Riewoldt was on fire early, kicking his side's first three goals of the match. On return from suspension, and in his 200th game, Brendon Goddard played his best game of 2012, finishing with 33 touches, including 21 at half-time. He spoke earlier in the week about putting too much pressure on himself after his amazing performances in both of the 2010 Grand Finals. Another heavy loss for the Dogs was compounded by news that midfielder Daniel Cross would miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. There was bad news for the Saints on the injury front as well. Adam Schneider went down with a hamstring strain and was expected to miss several weeks.

COACHES COMMENTS
Scott Watters (StK): They owned training this week, they played a key part in developing our strategy for the week and most pleasingly, they executed really well. I was proud of the way they went about it.

Brendan McCartney (WB): That's what's unacceptable. A bad five minutes is turning into a bad 45 minutes and we've got to get better than that.

Umpires: Stevic, Stewart, Bannister
