Match Report

This was without doubt a tale of two coaches. For Giants' coach Kevin Sheedy it was the best of times, as his charges celebrated his 1000th VFL/AFL game as coach and player by romping to a 34-point win over a hapless Port Adelaide. For Matt Primus it was the worst of times, who left the coaches' box with several minutes to go in the match and was seen shortly after in the changing rooms, a solitary, tortured soul. Whether he knew it or not, this was to be the last time Primus would coach Port Adelaide, with the club announcing on Monday that his contract would not be extended beyond 2012. Primus immediately stepped down and Garry Hocking was appointed caretaker coach for the remaining four games of the season.

Greater Western Sydney put in the best four-quarter effort of their inaugural season, enabling them to lead the match from start to finish. Giles and Ward were prominent for the victors, while Bugg and Cameron chipped in with three goals each. For the Power veteran Kane Cornes toiled hard to be his side's best. He would perhaps left the ground with mixed feelings, knowing that his brother Chad was part of the Giants' historic first win at the Sydney Showground.

COACHES COMMENTS
Kevin Sheedy (GWS): We learnt a lot playing against Adelaide, Hawthorn and Sydney. [The win] is great for the Western Sydney fans.

Matthew Primus (Port): We were as bad as we've been. The group have come on in leaps and bounds this year, but today just wipes that all out.

Umpires: Fleer, Pannell, Harris
