Match Report

A hard-fought win against Fremantle at AAMI Stadium has allowed Adelaide the consolidate a top-two place on the ladder. With three games against bottom-six teams to come, the win has all but ensured the Crows of a home final and a double chance. In a relatively high-scoring affair (particularly considering Fremantle coach Ross Lyon's focus on defence), the Crows' win was set up on the back of a magnificent shut-down performance on Matthew Pavlich by Daniel Talia. In just his second season, Talia has been a revelation at full-back for the Crows. To keep the Dockers' captain to just two goals was doubly impressive, given the red-hot recent form of Pavlich. Adelaide established an early lead by kicking three of the first four goals of the match. From that point, the two sides went goal-for-goal for much of the remainder of the game, enabling the Crows to maintain a barely comfortable buffer over Fremantle.

The loss left Fremantle out of the top eight on percentage but a favourable draw in their last three matches could yet see the Dockers sneak into the finals. For Adelaide, Patrick Dangerfield was again a star, while Matthew Wright (who, like Talia, is in just his second season) amassed a game-high 37 possessions for the Crows, to go with his two vital last-quarter goals. Matthew de Boer and David Mundy were amongst Fremantle's best, while Michael Walters kept the Dockers in touch in the second half with three goals.

COACHES' COMMENTS
Brenton Sanderson (Adel): Our second half was probably as good as I've seen this year.

Ross Lyon (Frem): We couldn't maintain the rage over the ball and Dangerfield just tore the game open.
