Match Report

Despite an improved effort, Port Adelaide fell short of registering its first win under caretaker coach Garry Hocking on Saturday afternoon, going down to Brisbane by 11 points at Football Park. A blistering third quarter, in which the Power kicked six goals to the Lions' two, set Port Adelaide up for what would have been Garry Hocking's first success in his third game as an AFL coach. But Brisbane redoubled their efforts and managed to kick four last-quarter goals in the wet, while restricting Port to a solitary behind.

Brad Ebert and Travis Boak were excellent for the Power, while Matthew Broadbent was handy up forward, kicking three goals. Brisbane was well led by Jack Redden, Simon Black and first-year player Dayne Zorko. Captain Jonathan Brown capped off their good midfield work with four goals.

The win took Brisbane's 2012 win-tally to nine, and as favourites to defeat the Bulldogs in the final match of the year, the Lions look likely to end the season with 10 wins, a big improvement on just four in 2011. Port Adelaide will round out a forgettable season with a trip to the MCG to face Richmond.

COACHES' COMMENTS
Garry Hocking (Port): That was really frustrating. We started really well again, which was pleasing [but] we just can't sustain the effort for four quarters.

Michael Voss (Bris): The culture [that we are building] is about - when it's against you - how you find a way, and we did that today.

Umpires: Farmer, Fila, Armstrong
