Match Report

Fremantle warmed up for the finals with a comfortable win over Melbourne at Paterson's Stadium on Saturday night. The Dockers increased their leading margin at each turn, running out winners by 61 points. The win took Fremantle to seventh on the ladder, and they will take on Geelong at the MCG next Saturday in an Elimination Final. A finals berth will be seen by many as justification of the recruitment of Ross Lyon to the Dockers' head coaching position. After the Saints missed the finals by just half a game in his first season as coach of St Kilda, Lyon has coached teams to finals in each of the five years since.

Matthew Pavlich returned from injury to kick two goals, while Nat Fyfe, who has also missed many games this year through injury, was the Dockers' best. Melbourne were well served by Jack Grimes, Colin Sylvia and Jack Trengove. It's been a long and tough season for Mark Neeld in his first season at the helm of the Demons, with his charges singing the victory song only four times throughout 2012. Neeld and all Melbourne fans will be looking for a significant improvement in 2013.

The Dockers will go into their match against Geelong without big defender Luke McPharlin, who injured his hamstring and was expected to miss two or three weeks.

COACHES' COMMENTS
