We head up north to the Playford Alive Oval in Elizabeth, as the Bulldogs faced the Panthers in the ABC Match of the Round. The Dogs' season hasn't started the way many at the Ponderosa had envisioned with no wins from two games. The Panthers already had a win on the board away to North, but they haven't won at Elizabeth for 13 years. In fact the Panthers have taken just one win from the last 27 encounters.
The Dogs had a point to prove and started off on the right note as they bagged 7.5 to South's 2.2 in the first term to lead by 33 points at the first change. But then to the surprise and shock of the home fans, the Panthers rallied hard as the Dogs suffered one hell of a brain fade. The visitors kicked 6.1 to a lousy 1.6 and brought the gap back to eight points. When the Bulldogs finally managed a major in the third quarter, it ended a 35-minute period without a goal as the Dogs re-awoke. They added five goals to South's 3.2 to lead by 18 points at three quarter-time. For over 15 minutes in the final term, it almost became a shootout. But in the final ten minutes, the Doggies finally put the foot down. Five goals in that period among the 7.2 booted to the Panthers' three goals saw Central finally secure their first points of 2012 with a 44-point victory.
Brad Symes was voted best for Central, while Joel Cross took best afield honours for South.
