In the final match of Round 14, we head back city-side to the Commander Centre Oval in Unley as the Double Blues prepared to face the Redlegs. Over the last few years, these two sides have traded some heavy defeats. From the last dozen matches, the Blues' biggest win has been 10-goals at The Parade in 2008 while the 'Legs inflicted a 13-goal hiding at Adelaide Oval early last year. The last encounter saw the Redlegs take a 47-point win at Unley only five weeks ago, but lately the 'Legs have seemed to stumble a little bit. A one-point loss to North, a hammering of Glenelg and then a narrow win at Richmond.
A dour first quarter saw the Blues take the early initiative but lousy kicking on goal saw just one goal from seven scores. Norwood's 1.1 during the term would see the home side up by five points at quarter-time. The Redlegs got back on course in the second term though, they kicked 4.2 as Sturt continued to send more shots wide than on target with their 4.5. At the long break the Double Blues held a lead of eight points. The inaccuracy problems carried over to the enemy camp in the third quarter, but that didn't stop the lead from changing hands. The Redlegs kicked 3.6 to the Blues' three goals, at the final change the visitors were up by four points. Unfortunately for the Sturt faithful, once again inaccuracy plagued a vital quarter of football as the Redlegs escaped with an eight-point win after kicking 3.2 to 2.4 in the final term.
Matt Suckling was named best for the Redlegs, while Sturt named Aidan Riley as their best.
