Match Report

Sydney remains in the top four and has opened up a break of a game plus 20 percentage points over fifth-placed Fremantle with a solid away win over West Coast at Subiaco on Sunday afternoon. The Swans took the lead over the Eagles late in the first quarter and although West Coast threatened to challenge at various times during the second half, it never managed to get closer than 22 points and Sydney eventually coasted to a 34-point victory.

The architects of Sydney's win were the reliable firm of Dan Hannebery (40 possessions and two goals), Josh Kennedy (29 touches and a goal), Kieran Jack (30 disposals, two goals) and Jarrad McVeigh (26 possessions). Valiant in defeat for West Coast were captain Darren Glass (23 possessions), Chris Masten (31 touches and a goal) and Matt Priddis (31 disposals).

Comfortable ensconced in the top four, the Swans will face the improving Tigers at the SCG in next Sunday's twilight game. For the Eagles, the loss to Sydney sees them two games plus percentage adrift of eight-placed Port Adelaide, although they have a chance to return to the winners list when they take on the 15th-placed Western Bulldogs at Docklands stadium.

A worry for the Eagles, who prior to the start of the 2013 season were seen as a potential Grand Finalist by many, is that Subiaco is no longer the feared fortress that it once was. They have won just two matches at the ground this year, against the Bulldogs and North Melbourne, and lost all others.
