The last match for the Saturday afternoon takes us back city-side, over to the City Mazda Stadium in Richmond for the clash between the Bloods and the Eagles. From the last 10 games, the Eagles have taken six to the Bloods four, Westies taking the win from their previous stoush in Round 2 after they raided the Oval Avenue nest and left with a 12-goal win. The Bloods past two weeks have been disappointing for the West faithful, an away loss to Sturt and then dropping a home match against Centrals would see them at risk of dropping to fourth on the ladder if they lost to the Eagles today.
Like last week, the weather would play a part in the match and early on, it looked like there wouldn't be much to separate the two as the Bloods would lead by a single kick at quarter-time after scoring 2.2 to 1.2. But with recent memory in their minds, the Bloods had a mission to complete and despite some inaccuracy, they would extend their advantage to 21 points by the half-time break after adding a further 3.4 and keeping the Eagles to 1.1. Westies' third quarter would be the game-breaker that would ensure their victory, they piled on 6.2 while the Eagles struggled to find an avenue to goal and managed just 1.2. At the final change the Bloods had a 51-point lead. That deficit would go un-changed in the end, both sides kicked 2.1 in the final term as West got themselves back on track and on the winner's list with their 51-point victory.
Captain Ryan Ferguson was named best for the Bloods, while the Eagles named Scott Lewis as their best afield.
