The ABC television trucks were parked at Prospect Oval for the stoush between the Roosters and the Magpies. The Roosters have the better tally from the last 11 games, with seven wins to Port's four, but it was the Magpies that took home the chocolates from their last clash in Round 9 at Alberton. The Roosters would be coming home rather steamed up after their last second loss at Woodville last weekend, while the Magpies were far worse off after going down to the Double Blues.
Early inaccuracy on the Roosters part prevented them from doing some quick damage to the Magpies, they kicked 1.5 but kept Port to just one behind to lead by 10 points at quarter-time. The Maggies battled back in the second term, bringing the deficit back to just two points at the long break after scoring 3.3 to 2.1. But then the Roosters found their killer instinct, left behind a few weeks ago... and they went off, despite the day's conditions. They choked the Magpies supply lines to goal, only allowing two behinds to go through while they kicked 4.2 for themselves to lead by 38 points at the final change. But the worst was about to come, the Roosters proceeded to bury the Magpies and continue to keep them goal-less for the remainder of the game. North booted 8.1 to Port's poor two behinds to take a 73-point win and with Westies out on the bye, nabbed second spot on the ladder.
Ben Williams was named best afield for the Roosters, while Port named Ben Newton as their best on a day of practically no highlights.
