At Broadspectrum Oval, the Bloods braced themselves for a Magpies onslaught.
A promising first term start by Westies, out to a nine point lead at quarter time. But the composure that allowed that start soon evaporated as the Magpies unleashed a furious attack that saw them boot seven straight goals to West's one. The Magpies going into the long break with a lead of 33 points. Port continued to boot away from the home side in the third term, but it could have been a larger margin had they not been so inaccurate at goal. The visitors kicking 7.9 to the Bloods' 5.3, the Maggies up by 45 points at three quarter time. Any chance of a revival by the Bloods was stopped dead by the Pies, who ran away with the win. Port winning by 57 points.
