In the ABC Match of the Round, it was over to Adelaide Oval's picture perfect surroundings for the Magpies encounter with the Panthers. The Pies were fighting to break into the top five, while the Panthers' was fading fast after such a promising start to the season.
South showed signs of good form early, matching it with Port's best to lead by a point at quarter time. That didn't last long, but the Magpies' inaccuracy at goal kept the door ajar for the Panthers. They kicked 5.6 to South's two goals to lead by 23 points at half time. South outscored the Magpies in the third term, but poor shots on goal allowed Port to keep their lead which was cut back to 13 points. But the Panthers buckled and Port took advantage in the final quarter, booting away with 5.4 to 2.1 to win by 34 points.
