Match Report

On Anzac Day, again the ABC broke out their cameras for the traditional Grand Final Re-Match at Adelaide Oval between the Eagles and the Bulldogs. The reigning champions and the 2005 runner-up would this time be fighting for a spot inside the five, a stark contrast to what went on last year when the both teams were already in the five.

The Eagles looked more determined early on in the piece, leading by 16 points and the end of the first term. That lead was extended to 22 points at the end of the half, after the Eagles added 5.2 to the Dogs’ 4.2. After the long break, both teams seemed a bit flat, but it was the Eagles who managed the most scores. They booted ahead to a 35-point lead after adding 3.2 to their tally, while Centrals only got 1.3. The first signs of improvement by Centrals came in the final term, where they came to within five points of an upset. But that wasn’t to be as the Eagles shook the Dogs off to register a 23 point win, taking away their second West End Battle trophy.

As well as being named best for the Eagles, Mark Passador was named the Bob Quinn Medallist for being best on ground.
