A sign of the times at Broadspectrum Oval was the poor turnout as the Bloods took on the Panthers. Earlier in the week West Adelaide coach Wayne Weidemann let fly at his team's lousy effort against the Roosters.
It took a while for the Bloods to get going, after being behind by 20 points at quarter time they shortened the Panthers' lead to 15 points before the long break. The Bloods first goal was a controversial one, apparently knocked through by a South defender. With a renewed vigour rarely seen from the Bloods, they kept up their improved attack on the Panthers and it put them in front by nine points at the end of the third quarter. The Bloods could almost smell that third win, but unfortunately the home side again dropped the ball and South made them regret it badly. West only managed three behinds, South booted 5.4 and ran out 28 point winners.
Rhys Archard stood out well for South and Ben Haynes again took out best afield honours for West.
