First up is a match that was supposed to be part of the third 2006 double header at the Adelaide Oval. Thanks to selfish programming by the AFL, Port Adelaide requested that their match against North Adelaide be moved to Friday night.
In slippery conditions, the Roosters got the jump on the Magpies, kicking away to a 27 point lead at quarter time. The second quarter was a shootout, both sides getting eight scoring shots. A single miss by the 'Pies however, saw North extend their lead to 32 points at the long break. That lead didn't alter at three-quarter time, poor kicking by the Roosters stopping them from widening the gap. They kicked 1.6 to Port's two goals. Another shootout followed for the final term, the extra difference being a couple of behinds to the Roosters -- 6.4 to Port's 6.2 -- who ran out 34 point winners.
Leigh Ryswyk was named best for the Roosters, Mark Clayton was named best for the Magpies, who now have no room for error from this time forward.
