There had to be one match sacrificed to the Showdown on Saturday for the ABC, so the cameras were sent to Hamra Homes Oval for the match between the Bulldogs and the Panthers.
This match had the lowest attendance for the round, but despite that the turnout was satisfactory and the home fans were encouraged by an eight point lead to the Dogs at quarter time. The Gowans boys as usual made themselves a real annoyance to the opposition, helping to stem most of the Panthers offensives and the home side extended the lead to 16 points at the long break. When play resumed, things went from average to really lousy for the visitors. Too many turnovers from bad disposals allowed the Dogs a six goal to two third quarter, stretching the Bulldogs lead to 41 points going into the final quarter. Centrals didn't power away in the end, but they bagged a further four goals to one in the last term to take two from two to start the season with a 59 point victory.
Chris Gowans was named best for the Dogs while Stephen Kenna was named best for South.
