Saturday afternoon was a lousy afternoon to go out to the footy, but people went anyway and no game highlighted the bad weather than what happened at Challenge Recruitment Oval between the Tigers and the Magpies.
As what would have been expected, wet weather footy sometimes brings the competitors closer together regardless of skill and at quarter time the margin was just three points in Port's favour. Don't let the reduced gap at half time fool you, Port's two point lead was hard to maintain as the Tigers threw everything they had at them in the second quarter. Whatever the home side did during that term seemed to work as the gradual takeover continued in the third quarter. The Tigers kept the 'Pies to one behind while they kicked ahead to a 10 point lead going into the final term. The Tigers managed to hold off the visitors last ditch run, the gritty Glenelg boys taking out a seven point victory in tough conditions.
Tiger captain Adam Fisher was named best alongside Port's Mark Clayton.
