Let's head off to the outer limits of metropolitan South Australia, to the Hickinbotham Oval at Noarlunga for the ABC TV match between North Adelaide and South Adelaide. The Roosters have been misfiring badly as of late, with only three wins from their last six.
The days' proceedings began with the Panthers up by eight points at quarter-time, they kicked 4.3 to North's 3.1 for the first quarter. The Roosters' poor kicking on goal allowed the Panthers to stay in front at the long break, the gap at that time being four points after the visitors kicked 3.4 to South's three goals. The lousy shooting continued in the third term as the Roosters continued to drag back the margin, again outscoring the Panthers by mere behinds. They kicked 1.5 to 1.3, the Panthers still in front by just one point at the final change. South captain Jason Torney needed to whip his men into a frenzy after the Roosters kicked ahead in the early stages of the final quarter. That spark came when Torney landed home a goal from 50m at the 12 minute mark, one of the Panthers' 4.3 to North's 3.2 that allowed the home side to win by eight points.
Torney's tireless efforts earned him best afield votes for South, the Roosters naming Fos Williams Medallist Clint Alleway as their best on ground.
