In the last match of the three games in Round 12, the Eagles travelled down to the Hickinbotham Oval to face South Adelaide. A victory to South would see them continue to hold onto sixth spot, but one for the Eagles would see them steal that same place on the SANFL ladder. This could be a contender for match of the year, the gaps at each change were always less than two goals.
The Eagles started off best, leading by five points at quarter time after a 4.2 to 3.3 first term. The Panthers reeled the visitors back in before the long break though, both sides kicked four goals a piece but mere behinds saw the gap reduced to two points at half time. The Panthers seemed to pick up some momentum in the third quarter as they took the lead, both sides flawless in goals but South bagged two more than their opponents -- five goals to three. But the Eagles saved their best for last, landing home 6.4 to South's 3.2. The Eagles won the day by 10 points, but there is no ignoring the new attitude going around at South under new coach Clay Sampson.
Jarrhan Jacky would have got the attention of the Crows after he took out best on ground honours for the Eagles, while South's lone '08 State player Craig Parry was named the Panthers' best.
