Match Report

Under the lights of the Hamra Homes Oval in Elizabeth, it was the match up between the Bulldogs and the Double Blues. The last encounter between these two sides was nothing short of embarrassing for the reigning premiers, an 85-point hiding at Unley bringing Centrals' premiership defence into serious question. But Sturt haven't won at the Ponderosa for the last 11 trips. While the rain eased off as the sun went down, the ground was slippery in parts and a big crowd didn't eventuate.

The Dogs would start proceedings with a 4.4 to 1.3 opening term, a deficit of 19 points at the first change. But the Blues would overturn that in the second quarter as they restricted the Dogs to just one behind whilst adding 4.3 to their score to take a seven point lead at the half-time break. From here, the Blues struggled to make a bigger impact on the scoreboard as they sprayed several shots wide from within a 20-metre range. In the third quarter the Dogs booted home 5.2 to the Blues' 3.4 to take a three-point lead into the final term. Sturt had no answers left in the final quarter, they were kept scoreless as the Dogs added 2.3 to their tally for an 18-point victory.

Pocket-rocket Ian Callinan was voted best on ground for Central, while Sturt named Jade Sheedy as their best player.
