In the final match for Round 1, we head on down to Woodville Oval where the Eagles faced the Panthers on Sunday afternoon. It was Round 17 last year when these teams last met, the Panthers copping a 53-point hammering.
Much like West Adelaide on Saturday, the Panthers had their own Jekyll & Hyde day here, starting off with a 5.1 to 3.1 first quarter to hold a two-goal lead at the first change. The Eagles' inaccuracy prevented them from seizing the lead in the second quarter, they kicked 1.3 to South's two goals which left the visitors taking a 14-point lead at half-time. But this is where the similarities between West and South stopped... the Bloods played four quarters, the Panthers came to a dead halt for a quarter and the Eagles swooped. Keeping the visitors scoreless, the Eagles powered into the drivers seat with 6.4 to take a 26-point lead at the last change. South did have something left in the tank but ultimately 3.2 to 1.3 wasn't enough to steal victory from the home side, who would win by 15 points.
Mark McKenzie was named best afield for the Eagles, while the Panthers named Toby Stribling as their best.
