Match Report

We journey up north to the Playford Alive Oval in Elizabeth, where the Bulldogs would face the Eagles in the ABC television match. The Bulldogs have been the source of many of the Eagles' nightmares this past decade, the last seven games at the Ponderosa ending in defeat. But the last encounter was one the Dogs would rather forget, after drawing level at three quarter-time the Eagles kicked an unanswered four goals to take victory.

The Dogs got started early on, inaccuracy was their enemy as they kicked 4.5 while restricting the Eagles to 1.2 to take a 22-point lead at quarter-time. More inaccuracy in the second quarter didn't stop the gap getting wider, the Dogs adding a further 3.4 to their tally while the Eagles kicked three goals. A 26-point gap separated the teams at the half-time break. The Eagles lifted themselves up in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 2.3 to 3.2 to bring the gap back to 21 points at three quarter-time. The visitors continued to threaten a comeback in the final term, but the reigning premiers would answer every challenge as they kicked 3.2 to the Eagles 3.4 to win by 19 points.

Alan Obst's second appearance for the Dogs got him best afield votes, while the Eagles named Luke Jarrad as their best.
