We head down Port Road to the Alberton Oval as the Magpies faced the Eagles. The Eagles haven't dropped a game for the last six outings against Port, the last encounter saw them take a 19-point win at Woodville.
Much like the Bloods the previous night, the Magpies needed a win and other games to fall their way to sneak into the five, but things didn't start off well for them as the Eagles kicked 4.2 to 2.1 in the first term to lead by 13 points at quarter-time. The Magpies hit back in the second term though, kicking 5.2 to the Eagles' poor 1.3 to lead by 10 points at the half-time break. The Magpies had their Port Road neighbours on the ropes for about 40 minutes, keeping them out of their scoring zone. But it had to give sooner or later as they bagged three goals in five minutes would see the two clubs tied up on the scoreboard at 8.6 a piece. Despite the vocal black & white crowd behind them, the Eagles had the wind on their backs in the final term as the Magpies faltered at the wrong time. The visitors kicked 4.2 to Port's three behinds to take out a 23-point win, thus ending the Magpies' season.
Scott Lewis was named best afield for the Eagles, while Port named Mark Dolling as their best on ground.
