Match Report

After four consecutive losses, Richmond has returned to the winners list with a comfortable 44-point win over bottom-of-the-ladder St Kilda at Docklands on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers jumped the Saints with a big first quarter, kicking six goals to one, then kept St Kilda at bay over the next to terms before accelerating away to a comfortable win. The Saints challenged at times, getting within 20 points just before time-on in the third quarter but were left to rue their poor first term.

The win was inspired b a best-on-ground performance from Trent Cotchin, who had 31 disposals but also spent some time on the forward line for a return of five goals. Cotchin received great support from Brett Deledio (11 marks, 30 disposals) and Brandon Ellis (36 disposals and six marks). For the Saints, Leigh Montagna (27 possessions, five tackles), James Gwilt (20 possessions) and ex-Hawk Shane Savage (26 touches and seven marks) all had fine matches.

While they are a long way from top eight contention, the Tigers have a chance of making it two wins in a row at the MCG next Saturday when they take on Brisbane. St Kilda, languishing at the foot of the ladder and having lost nine games in a row, have a chance to stop the rot when they take on Carlton at Docklands next Sunday.
