Match Report

On Saturday the Bulldogs faced the Tigers at Playford Alive Oval in Elizabeth. The Bulldogs have dominated the Tigers as of late, dropping just two games and drawing once from the past 13 games. Which basically says, despite whatever position the Tigers have been in over the last few seasons, they've managed to inflict a couple of cheeky slaps across the Doggies backsides at times. That's exactly what happened earlier this season back in Round 7, the Tigers nicking a one-goal victory at Glenelg with the last score of the game and narrowly avoiding another tied game. But they've not replicated that result at the Ponderosa for a while.

With two tightly-contested and hard-fought victories under their belt and a possibility of finals football in sight, the Dogs had everything to fight for. They set about their task quickly, scoring 6.2 to the Tigers' 3.2 in the opening term to be ahead by three goals at the first change. The second term wasn't a goal-fest, but the Dogs' still managed to extend their lead to 24 points by the long break after they scored 2.2 to 1.2. When play resumed, it still looked as if the Tigers could make a game out of it despite the margin. But they were out-worked by the Dogs, who were out to kill a contest rather than keep the opposition in it unlike previous weeks. Centrals added a further 3.2 to the Bays' single goal in the third term to take the margin out to 38 points by the final change. The kill order was finally enacted in the last quarter, the Dogs finishing the match off by booting 6.1 to Glenelg's 2.4, the Dogs' 59-point win giving them within a sniff of a 15th consecutive finals appearance.

Trent Goodrem was voted best on ground for Centrals, while the Tigers named Matthew Snook as their standout.
