We headed to the west side of the city to Richmond on Friday night for the contest between the Bloods and the Crows at City Mazda Stadium. The Crows have yet to take a victory against the Bloods in their short SANFL history, their two games in 2014 were both victories for Westies. The first was a 37-point win in Round 6, then a low-scoring affair in Round 12 which was decided by a single goal. The first encounter of 2014 was only win number two for the Bloods at that point, they started last season with four straight losses. But after a fighting victory away to the Eagles last week, a 2-0 start to 2015 was the only way forward. In their way was a Crows side with 10 AFL-listed players and a group of top-ups consisting of hunger and youth, coming off a narrow loss to the Roosters last weekend.
That hunger came to the fore early in the evening, the Crows taking an 11-point lead at the first change after scoring 4.3 to West's 2.4 in the opening term. More inaccuracy threatened to put the Bloods further behind, but the Crows would only manage three goals to the Bloods' 3.6, bringing the gap back to five points at the long break. That second term was probably just a minor hiccup compared with what was about to come from the Bloods, they returned to the field with some renewed vigour and began their climb. They would outscore the Crows 5.2 to 2.2 in the third quarter to take over the lead, at the final change Westies had a 13-point lead. They would make it a forgone conclusion in the final stanza, adding a further 5.1 as the Crows fell away with a 2.3 last term effort to go down by 29 points.
Taite Silverlock was named best for the Bloods, while the Crows named Jarryd Lyons as their best on ground.
