A Saturday afternoon stoush, at Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg saw the "Clash of the Cats" between the Tigers and the Panthers. The two jungle beasts last went head to head in the season opener at Noarlunga, the Panthers were held scoreless in the final quarter but still managed to hold off the late Tigers' challenge to win by nine points. After defeating the Magpies in Round 10, the Tigers dropped three matches on the trot before their Round 14 bye while the Panthers won three matches in that same period including last weekend's victory over the Redlegs.
In a spirited opening quarter, the Bays would find themselves ahead by two points at quarter-time after scoring 3.3 to the Panthers' 3.1. However after kicking the first goal of the second quarter, the Tigers would soon find themselves down by 20 points at the long break, the Panthers kicking five goals before the Bays could answer back with a second. South could have been far more ahead had they been more accurate, they fluffed five other opportunities to Glenelg's single missed shot.
But the Panthers machine that is no doubt destined to contest September was about to drop the ball in almost unforgivable fashion and perhaps have a chink put in their armour. Much like the Tigers did in the second term, South took the first major but that was where their afternoon would finish as the home side began their fightback. Glenelg scored 4.2 to the Panthers' 1.3 to bring the gap back to three points at three quarter-time. The visitors would score just one behind in the final quarter, the Tigers scored 2.2 to run out 10-point winners in a major upset and allowing the Crows to come within striking distance of South's coveted third place.
Josh Scott was named best for Glenelg, while the Panthers named Brede Seccull as their best afield.
