In the inner west side of town, the City Mazda Stadium hosting the game between the Bloods and the Panthers. The Bloods' nightmare premiership hangover was just really getting started when they last faced South when they were handed a 71-point hiding at Noarlunga back in Round 3. After a couple of breakthrough wins several weeks ago, its been a case of back to reality for the Bloods, going down to Sturt by almost 15 goals last week while the Panthers withstood a late challenge by the Dogs.
After a relatively close first term by Westies' 2016 standards, where the Panthers scores 3.2 to 1.2 to lead by two goals at the first change, things were about to go straight to hell for the reigning premiers. They would be kept to a lousy single behind in the second quarter, the Panthers adding 4.4 to their score as the gap went out to 33 points by the long break. With the Double Blues dropping their chances against the Eagles, this match would be a massive boost to their aspirations toward perhaps usurping the minor premiership. The Panthers would continue to inflict the harsh punishment on the Bloods when play resumed, they would add a further 8.1 to 2.1 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 75 points at the final change. With plenty of fuel still left in their tanks, the visitors kept on going toward a massive deficit. The Panthers scored 6.3 to the Bloods' 3.1 in the final term to run out 95-point winners and bringing them to a game of the Blues' premiership points tally.
Brett Eddy was named best for the Panthers, the Bloods named Zac O'Brien as their main standout.
