Match Report

The Eagles faced the Redlegs at the Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval at Woodville. In last season's two games, the Eagles took all the points from their 2015 encounters. The first was an 81-point thrashing in Round 3, then an 11-point victory in Round 19. Prior to the State match bye, the Redlegs halted a three-game losing streak against the Bloods, while the Eagles had a week off after their 39-point defeat of Port.

But despite the longer absence from competition, the Eagles began the afternoon's proceedings with four goals without a miss in contrast to an inaccurate Redlegs score of 1.4 to lead by 14 points at quarter-time. That horrid opening term repeated itself for Norwood in the second term, while the Eagles continued to push forward and opened the gap to 37 points by the long break after they kicked 5.3. The goal-kicking yips changed camps when play resumed, but the Eagles' peppering at their end saw the deficit go out to 42 points by the final change, both sides kicked three goals each with the home sides' five behinds making the difference. Even with the inaccuracy on goal, the Redlegs' horrid ball skills would see them going back to The Parade soundly thrashed, the Eagles adding a further 4.5 to one goal in the final term to take a 59-point win.

Luke Thompson would take best on ground honours for the Eagles, while the 'Legs named Tim Webber as their standout.
