Match Report

On Saturday afternoon the Bulldogs hosted the Crows at the My Money House Oval in Elizabeth. This would be the Doggies' first return bout for season 2016, but it was only five weeks ago that these sides last traded blows. The Crows made a game of it in the third quarter, but didn't leave enough in the tank for the final stanza as the Dogs went on to record a 23-point win. Notably, unlike most of the last couple of seasons in the SANFL competition, there was a somewhat more healthier number of travelling fans that fronted up at the Ponderosa.

The Dogs wouldn't waste any time getting on the front foot, getting out to a 19-point lead at quarter-time with their score of 5.3 to 2.2. Soon enough, the AFL skill of Adelaide would be shown up by the Bulldogs' hard yakka football, repeatedly catching the Crows off-guard and taking 5.1 to 2.3 for their second quarter efforts. At the half-time break, the Dogs were out to a 35-point lead. The third quarter seemed to be a bit more testing for the Bulldogs as the goals dried up for the ensuing period, but despite losing a point from their half-time lead and coughing up 2.2, the Bulldogs' two goals - plus one miss - came from way down back with a pair of long runs and one coming from a chase-down tackle and free kick. At the final change, it was a gap of 34 points to the home side. The Bulldogs would finish the afternoon with a resounding 55-point victory, closing the game the way they began it by kicking 5.3 to two goals.

Nick Holman was named best for the Dogs, the Crows named former Bulldogs Ricky Henderson as their best afield.
