Saturday arvo contest found us heading over to the inner west, to the City Mazda Stadium in Richmond where the Bloods faced the Tigers. It was back in round two when the two sashes last clashed, the Tigers took their first points of the season at the Bloods' expense with a 75-point hiding at Glenelg. But this time the Bloods were coming in with a little confidence after they held off a fast-finishing Roosters at Prospect last week, while inaccuracy dogged the Tigers at home against Sturt.
The Bloods had their own accuracy issues early on in the afternoon's proceedings, but would hold a 15-point lead at quarter-time after scoring 4.5 to 2.2. They would improve on that factor of their game in the second term, adding a further four goals without a miss to the Tigers' 1.3 as the home side extended their advantage to five goals by the long break. From here the goals would practically belong to the Tigers, however their wasteful shooting on goal would allow the Bloods to keep the lead. In the third term, the Bloods kicked their last goal for the entire afternoon along with a pair of behinds while the Tigers could only chip small pieces away from the deficit. They kicked 3.5 to bring the gap back to 15 points. In the end, those wasted chances would completely negate their other around-the-ground efforts, at best they would have taken a draw after kicking 2.3 but the Bloods' two behinds in the final term would be the difference maker in the end.
Mason Middleton was West's best on ground, in the Tigers camp the best afield honours would go to Terry Milera.
