We start things off by crossing the Hilton Bridges into Richmond, the Bloods facing the Redlegs at City Mazda Stadium under Friday Night Lights. Both matches last season went the way of the Redlegs, although going by the margins of victory and Westies' lousy year they were made to fight for those wins -- in Round 9, the 'Legs took a 27-point win followed by a 14-point win in Round 19. The Redlegs were edged out last week at home to Port, but the Bloods weren't half as lucky as they got belted by the Eagles.
A hard fought opening quarter saw the Redlegs ahead by eight points at the first change, two quick-fire goals to West in the middle of the term and Norwood's inaccuracy on goal keeping them in touch. But a couple of misses in the following quarter allowed the Redlegs to extend their lead to 19 points by the half-time break, they scored 4.2 to 2.3 in that second term. The third quarter was an all out slog, both sides struggling to find the sticks. The Redlegs scored the only goal of the term, along with three behinds to Westies' two the gap was now out to 26 points at three quarter-time. There was little resistance put up by the Bloods in the final quarter, they only managed one goal as the visitors kicked a further four to put the result beyond doubt, victory by 44 points.
Sam Baulderstone was voted Norwood's best, the Bloods named Aaron Fielke as their standout.
