Collingwood’s Albert Lauder may have only played 36 games of VFL football but three of his appearances came in the premiership deciding matches of 1928, 1929 and 1930. Normally deployed either on a half back flank or in the back pocket he got his chance to play in the seniors when star Magpie defender Ernie Wilson was injured, and subsequently retired. It is reckoned that at least three different VFL clubs rejected Lauder before he signed with Collingwood.
