The older brother of former South Fremantle and West Coast champion Glen Jakovich, Allen Jakovich was in some respects almost the antithesis of his immensely durable, solid and hard working brother. His stint in South Australian football was brief, but notable. A dynamic, volatile performer whose whole raison d'être seemed to involve kicking goals, he played a total of 48 senior SANFL games for Woodville in 1989 and 1990, topping their goal-kicking ladder both years. In all matches over those two seasons, he kicked 223 goals in total. In 1990 he represented South Australia against his home state and was directly opposed for a time by his brother.

The 1991 season saw Jakovich crossing to the AFL with Melbourne where, after a dazzling start, his form and fitness fell away. He later played briefly with Footscray. Prior to joining Woodville he had spent time with South Fremantle and Southern Districts (Darwin) as well as a couple of West Australian country teams.
