Andrew Lockyer was a strongly built footballer who was equally adept either as a key forward or in defence. During his 146 game WAFL career with East Fremantle from 1984 to 1996 he played mainly as a forward, as his overall tally of 390 goals attests. His best total for a season came in 1995 when he registered 105 majors. He was a member of Sharks premiership teams in 1985, 1992 and 1994.

Between 1987 and 1992 Lockyer was on West Coast’s list and his AFL career ran in tandem with that of the WAFL. Early in his time with the Eagles he was used chiefly as a forward but it was after being shifted to defence that he produced his best football. In 1991 he was a member of West Coast’s first ever grand final team but could not prevent a loss to Hawthorn. A year later the Eagles again played off for the flag, this time successfully, but Lockyer’s AFL career was over by then. That career saw him play 78 games and kick 35 goals.
