Andrew McKay was a strong running, creative defender, initially with Glenelg, where he played 40 games in 1991 and 1992, and then for a highly memorable 11-season, 244-game AFL stint with Carlton. Highlights of his career included participation in the Blues' 1995 Grand Final victory over Geelong, a Carlton best and fairest award in his last league season, and selection in the 1994, 1999, 2000 and 2001 AFL All Australian teams. McKay also captained the Blues for part of the 2003 season.

Originally from Lucindale, he was one of Glenelg's best in its losing Grand Final of 1992 against Port Adelaide, and was a regular state of origin selection for South Australia until the demise of the state of origin concept in the late 1990s.

A veterinarian by profession, McKay is now general manager of football operations at the Blues.
