At 164cm and 55kg Andy Brannan was one of the smallest players ever to represent the Richmond Football Club. Not surprisingly, he played most of his football as a rover and forward pocket. Locally born and bred, he joined Richmond in 1941 and made his senior debut the following year. In 1942-3 he played 19 VFL games for the Tigers and scored 29 goals. He then crossed to Hawthorn where, from 1944-6, he added 31 games and 39 goals. He later returned to Richmond as coach of the thirds (1954-5) and fourths (1959).
