Hawthorn recruited Andy Collins from Doncaster Heights but he failed to impress and was off-loaded to VFA side Sandringham. His form with the Zebras was so good that the Hawks invited him back for a second chance and this time he made the most of the opportunity. Relentless, pacy and boasting good skills he was perhaps the most effective, and certainly the most eye-catching back p;ocket player of his generation. Between 1987 and 1996 he played 212 V/AFL games, including 189 in a row at one point. Named club best and fairest in 1990 he was a member of Hawthorn premiership teams in 1988-9 and 1991.
