Over the course of his 13 season playing career Archie Pratt played for no fewer than eight clubs without really settling at any of them. He commenced his playing career with North Melbourne in 1901, and he stayed longest at his last club, Melbourne City, where he played 21 games and scored 11 goals in 1912-13. In addition to his seven VFL and VFA clubs he spent the 1904 season with South Ballarat.
