Although he was not especially pacy St Kilda’s Hampton Juniors recruit Bill Coady played for much of his VFL career as a wingman. He could also operate effectively as a half forward flanker. He worked his way up through the ranks with the Saints before making his senior debut in round nine 1959. Thereafter he was an almost permanent fixture in the seniors until he retired in 1963 having made 70 appearances and scored 18 goals. He later coached Goulburn Valley Football League club Tatura.
