Bill Robinson was one of three brothers to play for Essendon, and without doubt the most talented of the trio. He joined the Same Old from VFA side Footscray, where he had played 48 games and scored 11 goals from 1898 to 1900. An abundantly talented footballer, he mostly played as a follower, the position he occupied in Essendon’s 1901 grand final defeat of Collingwood, as well the losing challenge final team of the following season against the same opposition. He represented Victoria against South Australia in 1901. His Essendon career comprised 71 VFL games and 14 goals in 1901-2 and from 1904 to 1906. He later played for Brighton (39 games, 35 goals, 1908-11) in the VFA as well as on the West Australian goldfields, along with brother Alex, at Boulder City.
