Pre 1965 stats are for selected matches only

AFL: 6,798th player to appear, 2,697th most games played, 713th most goals kickedSt. Kilda: 1,043rd player to appear, 161st most games played, 33rd most goals kicked

A ruckman and centre half forward for most of his VFL career with St Kilda, Bill Stephenson hit the headlines when he garnered 20 goals from full forward in three and a half matches at the beginning of the 1962 season. It was at that point that he injured his knee, and he was never quite the same player thereafter. He retired just over a year later, having played 88 VFL games and scored 139 goals between 1957 and 1963. Immensely strong, he may have lacked the height of some of his opponents, but he certainly knew how to throw his weight around effectively. In addition to his Saints career he played for Victoria against both South Australia and Western Australia in 1960.
