After suggesting, early in his career, that he had the raw natural ability to develop into a bona fide champion, Bob Giles never really managed to fulfill his potential, although he was a serviceable player, mainly on a wing, in 67 VFL games for South Melbourne in 1950 and from 1952 to 1955.
