A defender from Aspendale, Bob Kupsch played only 18 VFL games for Collingwood from 1954 to 1957, but these included the losing grand finals of 1955 and 1956 (albeit that he started on the bench in both matches). He crossed to St Kilda midway through the 1957 season in search of greater opportunities, and ended up making more appearances in 18 months than he had managed in three and a half seasons with the Magpies. In 1959, with 20 games for the Saints to his name, he joined Sandhurst of the Bendigo Football League as captain-coach were he remained for two seasons, before undertaking the same role in 1961-2 at Mid Murray Football League side Tyntynder.
