Steady rather than spectacular, Bob Spargo was also highly versatile in that he could handle just about any position. His VFL career comprised 65 games and six goals with Footscray from 1934 to 1941 followed by a couple of games and no goals for Melbourne in 1942. His son, also called Bob Spargo, later played for both Footscray and West Perth.
