A ruckman who marked well and was a good team player, Brad Tunbridge, when at the peak of his form, lost little in comparison with the very best followers in the game. He commenced his senior career in 1986 with East Fremantle, playing just four games in his debut season before holding down a regular place in the side thereafter. After playing 41 games and kicking 46 goals for the Sharks he was drafted by Sydney, and took his AFL bows in 1990.

At first he was hampered by a back injury sustained during his time with East Fremantle, but in 1991-2 he played some excellent football. In 1992 he had 293 hit-outs, the third highest total in the competition, and took 107 marks. He also polled eight Brownlow votes, which was joint best for the Swans. The Sydney phase of his career, which came to an end in 1993, saw him play 50 AFL games and kick 17 goals.
