Richmond recruited Brendan Bower from Mildura and he commenced with the under nineteens, playing in a premiership-winning team at that level in 1985. He made his senior VFL debut the following year and went on to play 92 games and kick 19 goals for the Tigers over eight seasons. A sprightly half back flanker or wingman, he liked to back his judgement and was once chosen to represent Victoria.
Bower joined Essendon in 1992 but managed just three games and three goals for the year. It was a similar story at his next port of call, North Melbourne, for whom he played twice and booted three goals in 1993. He played half a season with Seymour in 1994 before being forced into retirement after seriously injuring a knee.
