Drafted by St Kilda from Morwell via Gippsland Power, Brett Knowles spent his debut season of 1997 in the reserves before making his senior debut the following year, when he did well. Highly determined and hard working, his promising start was derailed in 1999 by injury. He bounced back strongly though and the 2000 season, when he made 17 senior appearances, proved to be his best. After that, the 2001 season proved disappointing, as he suffered a dramatic loss of form late on which led to his being de-listed at the end of the year.
