Brian Beers was a champion schoolboy footballer who took the by no means well worn track to the VFL, where he played for both Collingwood and Fitzroy. He commenced with the Magpies in 1958 and crowned his debut season in the best way imaginable by helping his team to an upset grand final defeat of Melbourne, to which he contributed a couple of goals. Playing mainly on a half forward flank, he registered 72 goals in his 60 VFL games for Collingwood. He crossed to Fitzroy in 1962 and, over the course of a three season stint, added a final 19 games and 14 goals to his respective career tallies.

Away from football Beers was an excellent tennis player and later became the general manager of Tennis Victoria. His sons Mark and Tony both also played for Collingwood.
