Bryan Beinke was a strong marking forward who somewhat perversely felt that his hands were too small to enable him to mark well. His 107 SANFL games for Port Adelaide from 1993 to 1996 and 1998 to 2003 saw him register 169 goals, and included participation in the premiership-winning teams of 1996, 1998 and 1999. He spent the 1997 season playing reserves football for North Melbourne but he was not retained by the club. Between 1999 and 2002 his SANFL career ran in tandem with a 38 game, 42 goal stint in the AFL with Adelaide.

Arguably the highlight of Brian Beinke's career was his form in 1998 when he won Port's best and fairest award and was also the club's top goal kicker, feats which presumably persuaded the Crows to draft him.
